Guest Injuries: The Most Common and How They Happen - Confessions of a Theme Park Worker
I saw several injuries when I worked at the parks, some of which were rather common. How common were injuries as a whole? How serious? What were the most common ones? And is there a way to prevent them?
A behind the scenes look at what a former worker at Disney World, Silver Dollar City, and Busch Gardens Florida experienced in his time working at the parks. From driving large safari trucks around live wild animals while cracking one silly joke after another, to spending 5 years as a #PhotoPass photographer at #WaltDisneyWorld and seeing and experiencing all sorts of things, to being a conductor and #trainrobber on the famous Frisco Silver Dollar Line at #SilverDollarCity. With 10 years of working in the parks, there's lots of stories to tell. Here is some of them...
Not only did I work in theme parks for 10 years, I've visited a whole lot of them as well. Here's some stories of great visits, not so great visits, favorites, reviews, and much more.

🛵 I'm an elderly woman with three mobility scooters. It's not easy to fight the parks to get your scooter rental, so I looked out for the discount deals online, and now the three scooters I own are all different. Let me tell you, if you're an older person and you know you're going to need a wheelchair someday, just start planning for a mobility scooter. My daughter thought I was going crazy when I fixed a lift on the back of my van years before I needed it. I didn't want to wait at the last minute like my older sister and parents did. They had to struggle for years, and I promised myself to accept what was coming, and how wonderful it was to go from never walking again to riding the streets and continuing to enjoy my freedom. Now my daughter is preparing her vehicle years before she hits her 70s. 💯❤️ to you all.

Wrong. Disney did not dig out Bay Lake. It was already there. What Disney did was dig a lake called Seven Seas Lagoon and use that dirt to build UP the Magic Kingdom.

Have still been rewatching in chunks… I agree, doing Disney in all standby (in 2021) was the move! We got everything we wanted to do done and more. However, in April 2024, I didn’t use Genie+ in Studios(except for Rise ILL) and got everything done I wanted to, and no Genie+(except VQ for Guardians) in EPCOT, and also felt like I did everything I wanted to do. I think the dates you go still make a difference!

Common sense, as they say, is not so common. I live in New England in a seaside town that gets a lot of tourism in the summer. Every year, sadly, a tourist drowns because they venture out on slippery rocks to get a better photo and a rogue wave comes in and knocks them off the rocks. Common sense would tell you to respect the ocean, especially when there are posted signs about the danger.

When I was in EPCOT waiting for Mulan (I think) There was a familiy who let theyre kids both sit on and get under the safety rails that was gusrding the flower plantage and I just wanted to say how dumb it was to them. We had a terrible roller coaster accident last year here that was totaly due to mechsnical issues after a repair of the rolller coaster and it killed ond (or two) and hurted several people. But I give you its rare, much like plane chrashes. Do you mean that peole never trip, fall or slip in the parks thats not theyre own fault? I can feel it must be quite common to slip on wet mud or slippery stones and such. Specially when youre brains are tired after a long day in the park, or when it get dark in the evening. But yea, please learn how to handle strollers and scooters.

13:02 - That's all going to depend on the park, and in turn the attraction. Disney I know is very lenient on this, except for Tron and Space Mountain. SeaWorld has an open camera policy and they'll let you use mounted GoPros for the most part.

Disney should have done it like in Paris doing a real Multi Pass like Universal or DLP did paying one fee and letting people go when they want to those certain included Rides but they always want to have the control and input when where people going. Sadly it counts more than ever how much Money they could squeeze out of us rather than how much ease and chill and entertain do magical to us we are just dollar Signs for them and less Fans to impress and making them happy yes it is a company and has to do well financially but losing the magic touch isn´t something they should focus on. If they would care they could do both financially being well and still carrying for what they put out making the audience and fanbase happy excited doind return value in mind rather than one offs cashing once and not worried about getting return income from the same people later on.

Unless you are an international Guest, Disney screws us for that. We have to be on US soil before we can book those three LL and the Service as well. I wondering what a excuse they would have for that since Pre-Pandemic it wasn´t any issue to preserve the Service also for international guests (with Fast Pass+) as well to book. Only because they charging money now, certainly it becomes a problem not sure why but not fair and right for their WDW main visitors next to the US ones from all the states that comes. So even off-site guests have a better option than global visitors that have to come first before been able to book I honestly ain´t happy about that so it will hopefully changed til 2029 or would work with phone more easily than. If it stays that loco thank goodness will be not really happy about that fact. At Disneyland only name change so far wondering how it will work there next year hope will not have problems with it.

As a teenager, riding in the back of my cousin’s pickup, I lost a hat his mother gave me - he went back for it but we couldn’t find it. My sister lost her glasses on the Big Dipper. Last year, a teenager had a meltdown over dropping her phone, getting into FitH - guess case by case, and she curled up in a ball - her “dad is going to kill her” - so they eventually had to, after all ¿4 or 5? sets of pumpers lined up to unload, they got a maintenance man to get it for her. Idk, thinking back, it could’ve been on the track. I was in the second seat, she was in the last. My nephew and his daughter, was in the pumpers that had just left.

$30 a day, just to park at SC B&B (¿Sunday? idk about muni. wharf, or 3rd St, meters). Up at the jacks - free, my sister wanted to go (back) there anyway, waves got her on the ajoining beach, but too far to walk back. 1440 only had the road (with a mural up the hill from Stilwell) and parking lot open. Gates kept us from Redwood Auditorium and Bowl. A coffee shop under the patio in front of Williams, accessible (when open) from the chapel.

Actually, that happened because the owner adjusted the safety systems of that particular seat to accommodate larger riders. They even removed the seat belt that is a backup for that harness style so it didn't have to close all the way. 100% the owner's fault because it was only a matter of time before someone sat in that seat who was too big for the restraint and the adjusted sensors would report a locked seat even though it was too open to be locked.

I have a story about when we went to WDW for the first and only time. I was with my mom and our friend Dee. We were watching the parade at nighttime . It was really crowed ( I'm very short for my age Hobbit sized basically....) and I was stuck right by a guy who kept swinging stroller around and kept almost hitting me in the head with it. Needless to say I wanted to punch that guy. My poor mom and Dee couldn't do anything to help me because they were stuck by other people and couldn't be right beside me.

The biggest disregard for safety is people who can't park in ONE spot with a vehicle that fits IN that spot COMPLETELY. They're asking for a ticket, and possibly a tow. They want their car back after the tow, it'll cost a few HUNDRED to a few THOUSAND dollars.
